rereading
I finished (a few weeks ago) rereading About a Boy, one of my favorite books of all time. I had chosen it as my book for book club, but it doesn't seem like book club is working out so well as of late, but i decided to read it again anyway, seeing as how i love it so much.
If you've seen the movie it's actually pretty close. In the book there is some more Ellie plot line, and a bit more of Marcus' Dad, but that's about it. I saw the movie first before i knew it was a book and decided that i must read it.
then i found out that the author, Nick Hornby, also wrote High Fidelity (now a movie featuring john cusack and jack black, his first big hit role) and i had to read that as well. He also wrote Fever Pitch which is now a movie, although i haven't seen it (i think it was because i did not like the actors in the movie, can't remember who's in it now but at the time it didn't seem good at all). Anyway, Nick Hornby may be one of my favorite authors, i've only read two of his books but i loved 'em both. and i loved rereading About a Boy. I've only reread a few books but it's always fun when i do, fun to pick up on things i hadn't noticed before, or maybe gain a new perspective on the story and even find a new theme.
just thought i'd let you know how much fun i had rereading one of my favorites.
p.s. i started Pride and Prejudice and Zombies about two weeks ago, and to be honest i'm not loving it. i read the first chapter in june when my sister checked it out and thought it was hilarious, so i put myself on the waiting list, but now i'm just not very impressed at all. it's so obviously contrived and i knew it would be that way, but it just isn't doing much for me. One of the things that bothers me the most about it is how Jane is still prettier than elizabeth but elizabeth is this infamous warrior and in many peoples eyes it makes her superior (at least in darcy's) but the whole point (at least i thought) was that jane was superior to elizabeth but in this story she's not. i don't know if that makes sense at all, and yeah it's a different story line but still. i don't know, just not loving it. I did however, read Seeing Red, the second in the Looking Glass Wars and if you are looking for a fabulous easy read you must pick up on this series. just absolutely fabulous.

Dan In Real Life
I've been LOVING the "Dan In Real Life" soundtrack. It's all (well mostly) written by Sondre Lerche, who is pretty brialliant. I've even checked out one of his own albums from the library, "Duper Sessions" which is a jazzy collection of his stuff.
This is the picture on the back of the soundtrack case. It just cracks me up every time i see it. I adore this movie and some part of me loves steve carrell, there's no way he's not just as adorable in real life.

serious
I have a somewhat serious question and it's a little strange but for some reason i just can't get it out of my head. I was prompted by a cute little pup i saw wandering around the streets as i was driving my dad to work this morning.
so here it is:
Do stray dogs (and cats i suppose, maybe just animals in general) sleep? and when? and where? do they just find a nice patch of grass, or whatever they find comfy i guess, and snooze?
i don't mean this to be funny or anything, i'm honestly curious. maybe they don't. maybe they don't stay stray for very long, although i'm sure in some places, like, big cities they do. and that makes me sad. it's hard loving animals and wanting them as pets and being allowed to have them (by govt. or whatever lets us have them) and then knowing that on the flip side many will be poorly treated, neglected or even become stray.
i've never seen a lone animal just napping in the park or anywhere for that matter. it seems like they're always up and about. have you ever seen one sleeping?

a lot of things, including me being a disgrace.
okay, so remember the pants i ordered?
(first of all they fit okay. someone at work told me they looked good on, so far i'm not completely convinced but i like the pants themselves so much i may just keep them)
and then remember the movie "Funny Face" and the pants she wore?
I don't mind that they are the same or look the same, but the point i'm going to make is that i also remember when GAP had those pants a few years back. does anyone remember that? I have a feeling biggest sister bought them. I distinctly remember the commercial for them of Audrey doing her dance. it is a sad thing for me to worry that crew copied GAP, but then of course the crew's are better.
okay, the other part. I'm a complete disgrace. I'm pretty sure my blog is turning into a blog only about things i want. which is sad because i don't want everyone to think i'm totally and completely materialistic. it's just easy when i have access to a discount that good and am surrounded by such cute clothes all the time.
but anyway, i want these:
I'm thinking they would be oh so cute with some long knee highs sticking out of them.
Which brings me to the other thing. All throughout the new fall crew catalog the models are wearing socks with whatever shoes they have on. At first it was disgusting, wayyy too 80s for me. but then, they started to grow on me. and i'll always love tights, thigh highs and knee highs but now i'm kind of wanting these:
Also, I got the new Nordys catalog today, i won't even go there. (at least for this post)

Downtown Chic
I checked out this "design your house" type book from the library and I can't stop going through it, reading every word and memorizing each room and style. Normally i think it's all good and fun to browse through these design books but i usually stop at browsing. Never had I brought one home before, mostly because i'm not in any position to be redecorating or even thinking about it, but i had to with this one. it's absolutely fabulous. One thing I like most about it is the text. They include stories about each house they worked on and good tips, useful ones for someone who is looking to make major/small changes to their home. It's written by a couple who live in NY, who got their designing start by doing it all on their own for their own house. They bought a condemned building in NY and totally redid it. I couldn't be more jealous of a house in my life, although the same could be said for any of the houses they worked on.
You can go to their site to see some more of their stuff, but here are just a few samples that i LOVE LOVE LOVE.
First of all, who wouldn't want their very own basketball court? and if you live in NY or another city where houses are wall to wall with each other and no yards, wouldn't it be great to have one on top of the house? how fun!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the girls room. Probably my most favoritest thing in the room are the framed flowers on the wall. i would love that! just think how it would perk up your day, and everyone would definitely notice and comment on it.
I also loved the pool. One of things i love about is there is not diving board just the deck next to it. In the book they show this house and a picture of all of their kids holding hands and jumping off the deck into the pool together, it's a priceless photo.
Anyway, just had to show you something that I'm totally and completely obsessed with at the moment.

just in case you were wondering, i ended up going with just the pants. i think they are absolutely adorable. hopefully they will fit fabulously, if not i can always return them and order the skirt, or exchange them for something else. that's the plan. i'll let you know how they fit in about a week or so.
