Although I'm not a big fan of Myspace I do think it is a good way for libraries to connect to patrons. I know many young adults use myspace, patrons are always on the site at the library so I think it is a great way to reach out to those patrons. I know we just barely created a myspace and facebook for our library and I think it's great, I think it's a great way to promote programs and other events that patrons might otherwise not be aware of.
I saw a study lately on the demographics of the various social networks, and it showed the Myspace was pulling lower and lower-middle class users, while Facebook was getting the upper-middle and upper class kids. I'd be interested in seeing who actually subscribes to a Salt Lake City library information destination on Facebook or Myspace. I don't really know how high demand for that service is.
